History
At Birches Green we deliver a broad and rich History throughout our EPIC Curriculum for all children. We want our children to understand how important history is. How it connects us to our past, guides our present and helps us shape a better future. We teach history throughout the school from children in Reception learning about traditional celebrations, Memory lane and Cadburys World in Year 1. Famous people from history such as Guy Fawkes, Grace Darling and Sir Francis Drake in Year 2, Greek legacy in Year 3, Romans in Year 4, Tudors in Year 5 and the Blitz and the Victorian era in year 6. History is taught in a way that is memorable for the children, which inspires our annual educational trips. For instance Year 1 children will learn about George Cadbury and they visit the factory and the town of Bournville he helped create. Children in Year 6 travel to Coventry Cathedral to visit the aftermath of the Blitz. By the end of Year 6 our children will be equipped with historian skills and knowledge that will enable them to be ready for the secondary curriculum and for life as an adult in the wider world.
