Science
At Birches Green, Science is designed to spark curiosity and develop a deep understanding of the world through hands-on investigations and real-world applications. Our curriculum builds progressively from Early Years to Year 6, covering topics such as seasonal changes, materials and their properties, plants and animals, forces and magnets, electricity, and evolution and inheritance. Each unit, linked to our EPIC curriculum pillars, has core knowledge and key questions that are revisited and built upon through regular retrieval practice, helping children make links between topics and year groups. From identifying animals and habitats in Key Stage 1 to exploring the human circulatory system and classification in Year 6, pupils develop their scientific thinking by making predictions, conducting fair tests, and analysing results. Science is further enriched through STEM events, outdoor learning, and cross-curricular links, ensuring our pupils leave Birches Green as confident, inquisitive learners ready to question, explore, and discover.
