At Birches Green we encourage and promote lifelong writers and prepare our pupils for the next stages in their lives. We deliver a writing curriculum that teaches basic skills for writing, develops confidence and enjoyment in the written word. Children begin mark making in Early Years which then turns into stem sentences and dictated sentences in Key Stage One. Within Key Stage Two children use their basic skills of spelling and handwriting to form their own compositions around a genre, showing the key features of text types such as character descriptions, newspaper recounts and balanced arguments.
